How PINTR calculates beer prices

These figures summarise beer prices listed in PINTR. They are not a guarantee of a venue’s current menu.

What is included

PINTR uses its available venue catalogue, current price database and approved venue edits. Positive AUD prices for explicitly named pot, schooner, pint and jug servings are included. Regular prices and explicitly marked happy-hour offers are calculated separately. Member-only prices, other offers, unspecified serving sizes and non-beer products are excluded. No missing size is inferred from another size.

All available listed prices contribute, including older or undated entries. The 120-day window labels a listing as recently checked; it does not remove that price from an average. Confirm prices and deal times with the venue before ordering.

One venue, one price

Beer names are normalised using PINTR’s explicit product aliases; Carlton Dry and Carlton Draught remain distinct. For duplicate regular listings at the same venue, beer and size, PINTR uses the highest reported price. For duplicate happy-hour listings it uses the lowest explicitly marked deal price. Each brand-and-size average is the arithmetic mean of one price per venue, rounded to cents. For an all-beer size average, PINTR first averages the included beers within each venue, then averages those venue means.

The observed range is the lowest and highest contributing venue price; for an all-beer group it is the range of venue-level means. Deals may apply only at specified hours or days, and a historic offer may no longer run.

Coverage and sample size

Suburbs come from venue listings. Greater Melbourne follows the app’s 60 km radius around central Melbourne. Victoria includes Victorian venues in PINTR’s catalogue. The directory includes Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, with national, state, metro and suburb comparisons calculated from available listings.

An average appears only when at least 3 distinct venues contribute. Smaller groups show “Insufficient data”. Sample size means contributing venues, not raw price records. Regular and happy-hour samples are independent.

Updates and dates

Pages and downloads read current database prices and approved edits on request, without an HTTP or process cache. The catalogue supplies additional listings and updates when that catalogue is published. Approved edits, additions, hides and venue changes affect the next request. A displayed source-check or update date is the newest recorded date among contributing listings; “Not recorded” means PINTR does not have a reliable date for that row. “Calculated” is the response time, not the date every venue last confirmed its price.
